Outsourcing R&D in Pharmaceuticals
There are two major processes that companies would outsource to third-party service providers: one is research and development (R&D) and the other is manufacturing. Pharmaceutical companies are some of the biggest spenders for outsourcing R&D because of their constant need to provide newer and better medicines to the market. The heightened pressure to offer new products fast could not always be catered to by the company’s in-house R&D department. So, instead of increasing its R&D budget, the company would resort to hiring third-party R&D service providers to do the job for them.
Since the R&D needs of the company is quite sensitive and requires the most accurate and precise data, it would outsource the task to notable researchers such as university graduates and professors.
